Holy Trinity Orthodox Church Annual Fall Retreat

Friday, Nov. 1 - Sunday, Nov. 3, 2024

Welcoming Fr. Justin Havens!

Fr. Justin Havens is the head priest and pastor at St. Xenia Church in Payson, UT, and he is a son of Holy Trinity! Like many, he is a convert to the Orthodox Faith. He was raised in a protestant setting on Long Island, NY. During his spiritual journey and after researching many churches, faiths, and philosophies, he discovered the Orthodox Church with much joy and relief. After his baptism his career plan changed from becoming a physician to becoming a priest, answering the call to become a spiritual physician. His wife, Seraphima, is also a convert to the Orthodox Faith and is his much better half and spiritual support. Together they joyfully raise 10 children, all born in Salt Lake City. Fr Justin spent sixteen years in Salt Lake City, eventually becoming a deacon and the head priest at Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Church in downtown and served that community joyfully. After exponential growth, Saints Peter and Paul ran into the “beautiful problem” of exceeding their capacity space with the many people who made a spiritual home there. Together, the parish envisioned a new church campus to both help solve this “problem” and to spread Orthodoxy through the state of Utah. This is when a new plot was found in Payson and building began for what is developing into one of the most stunning churches in the West not only in physical beauty but also spiritual beauty through the work and prayers of so many of the faithful. Fr. Justin now lives in Payson with his family, serving the divine services daily, and attending to the needs of a newly thriving community.

FAQs

Is it open to anyone?

No. This year’s retreat is limited to members of Holy Trinity, St. John’s students, and friends and family.

What about St. John’s students?

There is a 20% discount for St. John’s students. Contact Fr. Jesse for a discount code.

Will there be food for me if I don’t register, or if I show up at the last minute?

No. The camp needs to know exactly how many meals to prepare in advance. In order to avoid wasting food and to keep costs down for everyone, we need to know exactly how many people plan to eat so we can order exactly that number of meals.

What if I don’t want to stay overnight?

Not a problem. Select below only the speakers and meals if you plan to eat with us.

Childcare?

Childcare is $20 per family and it covers all 3 speaker sessions and 1 hour of the afternoon free time.

What if I can’t afford to participate?

There are scholarships available for room and board. We’d rather have you with us! Click here to let us know. We are not able to help with transportation.

Can I help provide a scholarship?

Of course! Click here to let us know.

What should I bring?

Clothing & Footwear- For those staying in the hotel, plan as you would for any hotel overnight stay. There are short outdoor walks to and from our 3 main areas: the hotel & dorm buildings, our meeting/worship room, and the dining hall. Our s’mores night will be outside by a fire. Weather seems like it will be typical fall weather for the area. Lows in the 30s. Layers will come in handy, perhaps even hats, scarves, etc.

Staying in a dorm? - You will need to bring all your own bedding: pillows, sheets, and blankets. Also bring all towels and toiletries.

Notebook & pen/pencil - If you’d like to take notes during the talks.

Instruments! For the campfire. If you have something that’s easy to transport, bring it!

Flashlights! There will be some walking around at night.

Misc: water bottle, any food required for a special diet, …

What should I not bring?

Because it is a retreat, it is a great opportunity to retreat from the insanity of the outside world. Consider leaving your smartphone, tablet, computer, etc. at home.

Registration

Registration is now closed. You are still welcome to join us but there will be no overnight accommodations available and you will need to bring your own food.
